Shilpa S Murthy MD MPH is an Associate Professor of Surgery at VA Puget Sound and the University of Washington. She is a colorectal and general surgeon whose research focuses on early onset colorectal cancers, global oncology and health policy, and the intersection between surgery and public health. Her current research focuses on risk factors and military related exposures associated with early onset colorectal cancer and leverages mixed methods and digital health approaches to develop innovative strategies for cancer detection, education, and cancer care delivery.

Dr. Murthy is a Department of Defense/War funded investigator. She is the recipient of a CDRMP Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program Career Development Award and has also received research funding from Yale Cancer Center Pilot Award for Research on Cancer Care Equity. Her research aims to advance strategies and policies that improve access to high quality cancer and surgical care for Veterans and underserved populations.
